Important: OpenIntel is a professional intelligence platform available exclusively to law firms, licensed investigators, insurance professionals, financial institutions, and other authorized business entities. This Privacy Policy governs our relationship with our customers and users of the platform - not the subjects of investigations conducted through it.
1. Who We Are
OpenIntel is a product of Detailed In Design, LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"), a company incorporated in the State of Illinois. We provide professional OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) tools for lawful investigative, analytical, and intelligence-gathering purposes.

2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
When you apply for an OpenIntel account, we collect:
- Company name, business type, and registration/license number
- Contact name, email address, and phone number
- Business website URL
- Description of intended use
- Billing and payment information (processed by our payment processor)
2.2 Usage Data
When you use the platform, we collect:
- API request logs (timestamps, endpoints accessed, response codes)
- Authentication events (login times, IP addresses, user-agent strings)
- Feature usage metrics (which tools and capabilities you access)
- License activation and heartbeat data (machine identifiers, activation status)
2.3 Single-Tenant Deployment Data
OpenIntel deploys on your infrastructure as a single-tenant instance. We do not have access to your investigative data, search queries, case files, or any intelligence gathered through the platform. This data resides entirely within your environment and under your control.
2.4 Information We Do NOT Collect
- Your investigative queries, search terms, or results
- Case files, reports, or Decision Artifacts generated by your instance
- Data about investigation subjects
- Your database contents or OSINT findings
3. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information exclusively for:
- Business verification: Confirming your eligibility to use OpenIntel (law firm, licensed PI, authorized professional entity)
- Account management: Provisioning your license, managing your subscription, processing payments
- License enforcement: Validating your license status, managing activations, heartbeat monitoring
- Security: Detecting unauthorized access, preventing abuse, protecting platform integrity
- Support: Responding to your inquiries and providing technical assistance
- Product improvement: Analyzing aggregate usage patterns to improve the platform (never your investigative data)
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers: Payment processors, hosting providers, and email services that help us operate (under strict data processing agreements)
- Legal compliance: When required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect our legal rights
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with prior notice)
We will never share your investigative data because we do not have access to it.
5. Data Security

6. Cookies and Tracking
Our product website (openintel.detailedindesign.com) uses:
- Essential cookies: Session management and authentication tokens
- No advertising cookies: We do not use advertising trackers, retargeting pixels, or third-party analytics
- No cross-site tracking: We do not track you across other websites
7. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days for billing reconciliation
- Usage logs: Retained for 12 months for security and compliance purposes
- Business verification records: Retained for 7 years as required for regulatory compliance
- On cancellation: Your instance is deactivated and all data on your infrastructure remains yours. We delete our records of your account within 90 days of final billing.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate information
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format

9. Children's Privacy
OpenIntel is a professional business tool. We do not knowingly collect information from individuals under 18 years of age. Our services are available only to authorized business entities.
10. International Data Transfers
OpenIntel deploys on your infrastructure in the jurisdiction of your choice. Account and billing data processed by Detailed In Design, LLC is stored in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, you consent to the transfer of your account information to the U.S. for processing.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes via email to the address associated with your account. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
